Pipistrelle

Pipistrelle is an application developed for HR Wallingford to help modellers create and run compositions of models that implement the OpenMI standard.  Pipistrelle is available to all users of the portal via the delivery repository. Advice on installing Pipistrelle has been provided elsewhere on the portal.

Before installing, please note that Pipistrelle requires a PC running a Microsoft Windows operating system with the .NET Framework 2.0 (or above) installed.

To help modellers evaluate the benefits of Pipistrelle, a number of simple compositions are included as part of the installation in an ‘Example Repository’.  This feature must first be enabled via Tools > Plugins on the task bar. A video (003_Plugins.avi) is available, which shows how to enable and use this feature.  A number of other videos have also been provided, which were produced as part of the 2010 HR Wallingford FluidEarth Workshop. These can be downloaded from the Pipistrelle folder in the Training document library.  These videos have been made using CamStudio, and may require the user to install the CamStudio Lossless Codec (V1.4), which can be downloaded from camstudio.org.

Pre-compiled versions of the demonstration models can be downloaded from the 'Models\BIN' folder in the Training document library, and can be used to evaluate Pipistrelle.

 
 The FluidEarth SDK

The FluidEarth SDK has been developed for HR Wallingford to help scientific programmers implement the OpenMI standard.  The FluidEarth SDK greatly simplifies the process of creating integrated models, allowing scientific programmers to quickly and efficiently modify their existing code.  The SDK is available to all users of the portal via the delivery repository.

To help modellers use the FluidEarth SDK, a number of very simple instructional videos have been created by HR Wallingford as part of the 2010 FluidEarth Workshop. These can be downloaded via the SDK folder of the Training document library, and show how to setup a Visual Studio Solution as a FluidEarth SDK template into which code from an existing model can be inserted. 

The code shown in the training videos can be downloaded from the ‘Models\SRC’ folder.  These models demonstrate how to use the FluidEarth SDK when wrapping a model written in C#, FORTRAN and Visual Basic.  Additional notes and slides from the training workshop will soon be added to the portal.

This training material described here is provided to all portal users in the hope that it will prove useful in learning how to use Pipistrelle and the FluidEarth SDK.  It is intended to allow users to evaluate the usefulness of the FluidEarth tools.  Errors may exist in the information provided and we would welcome any comments or feedback, which can be sent to the FluidEarth Admin team.
